There is a time-sensitive period in a newborn's first years where the capacity of the mind to learn is as effortless as it will ever be, the “absorbent mind”. Like a sponge, the mind soaks up knowledge from its surrounding environments. Language, order, movement, and social relations during these windows are when there is an intrinsic drive to master related skills. Blooming Stars Education Center offers a curriculum that emerges from each child’s unique skills and interests based on daily observations. Teachers introduce new materials and activities that pique curiosity, stimulate learning, promote independence, order, coordination, and concentration, as well as support social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development. Our “nido” (Italian for "nest"), accommodates non-mobile, crawling infants in a peaceful classroom environment in addition to an environment which includes developmentally appropriate furniture and materials to promote your child’s budding independence, including bars for pulling up and mirrors to reflect body movement. While safety is paramount, equipment that limits a child’s freedom of movement is avoided and here, the infant safely explores, feeling secure in the presence of loving adult caregivers. The environment is language-rich so that children are exposed to and develop a broad vocabulary and a range of books allows children to explore on their own or read aloud with an adult. In this learning environment, children work independently, observe others, explore freely, and express their curiosity.
