In the preschool Montessori Environment, teachers create a customized environment crafted to the children’s unique abilities, interests, and learning style. This approach to learning is hands-on where moving and learning are inseparable. In the prepared classroom, children work with specially designed manipulative materials that invite exploration and engage the senses in the process of learning. Teachers provide presentations on the materials in the classroom, children are encouraged to try on their own and guided towards areas of interest or areas of needed growth and development. Teachers complete observations of the children in order to allow the child to guide them towards what materials to develop next, present to each child and areas of growth to focus on next.
The Montessori Early Childhood curriculum follows a 3-year sequence. As children move forward, they develop the ability to concentrate and make decisions, along with developing self-control, courtesy, and a sense of community responsibility. The Early Childhood classroom offers your child 5 areas of study: Practical Life, Sensorial, Math, Language, and Cultural Studies.
